HBS MBA Interview: Format, Questions & Tips

How the Harvard Business School MBA interview works: invitation, format, timing, and the post-interview reflection.

Interview format

Interviews are by invitation only, at the discretion of the Admissions Board. Each interview is 30 minutes and is conducted by an MBA Admissions Board member who has reviewed your application. HBS describes the interview as tailored to the candidate and designed as a conversation. If invited, you must interview to complete the application process.

Timing and location

Invitations typically come four to six weeks after the application deadline. Interviews take place on campus, in domestic or international hub cities, or via Zoom. HBS states that neither the timing of the invitation nor the interview format affects your candidacy, and that an interview is a positive indicator of interest but not a guarantee of admission.

Post-interview reflection

Due within 24 hours

Candidates must submit a written reflection through the online application within 24 hours of completing the interview. HBS emails the instructions to candidates who participate in the interview process.

After the interview

Decisions for the Class of 2029 are released on fixed dates: December 10, 2026 for Round 1, March 25, 2027 for Round 2, and June 30, 2027 for the 2+2 Round.
